Normandy landing in Poland

This morning I read my friend Christine's post about her encounter with World War 2 in Normandy – http://dadirridreaming.wordpress.com/2014/06/18/normandy/

In Poland too there is a celebration of the 1944 landing of allied forces in Normandy, when the Polish Air Force gave significant support. These images are taken from old photos, and displayed along the fence of the Botanic Gardens in Warsaw, telling some of the story of Polish airmen in World War 2.

  1. this is wonderful Meg! I love those old posters and what a relief that it was seventy years ago, a whole generation has lived since the end of that war … although I realise where you are lives were not free all of that time … 🙂

    1. It was a bit startling to learn that the life expectancy of men in Poland is 72. It would have to be in part hardship related I think. (For women it’s 81). The war still resonates with quite young people.

      1. another family (American) stayed at our bnb, the teenage son is a wwII fanatic so they were visiting all the significant battle sites … he was more interested in battle tactics than compassion of course …
