Early morning by the lake

Yesterday, I encountered an artist, a man with long grey hair and a beret. He was set up in a narrow defile, with a rock face in front of him. He told me he wanted to explain his paintings, all of them of the island, all of them differently coloured, representing moods and the time of the day. He was a showman. As he talked about each small painting he displayed it on the rough narrow shelves of the rock, until the rockface blossomed with images of the island, from black and white to quite garish. It seemed to me he was in the tradition of Monet's haystacks and the Japanese painters of Mt Fuji. Maybe I can join that tradition with another collection of lake and island photos, this time in the growing light of early morning, with rippled reflections interrupted by light-lines and the gliding of ducks and swans drawing triangles behind them.
