Gifts for the journey

In the pocket next to my passport I carry precious gifts from friends. Meg gave me a pack of homemade shortbread to be taken at moments of need. I ate them ceremonially, mainly to give me pleasure in airports and to mark the stages of the journey. The accompanying wishes were for joyous laughter, warm friendships and smooth connections. I loved these wishes, especially because they reflected what I wanted from my journey. Then, on the eve of departure, she sent me an image that made flying a thing of beauty, a photo taken at sunset across Grey Rocks at Bingie.

Sandy has also accompanied me as I prepared for my adventure, taking time out from building her house to listen to my angsting and my tales of obsessive planning. She often writes occasional verse and she sent me this treasure to accompany me on this occasion. I read it in airports, and again on arrival in Ljubljana.

Fare thee well dear friend
I wish you blessings end on end
In your journey. And on the way
Welcomes from new friends!

May spontaneity and curiosity
Be the fuel for you velocity
May you relish each moment and day
And with culture and images play. YOUR way.

I will keep a space here for your return
That special 'Meg' space from which I learn
And enjoy. You open newness with your eye
And mind so keen. Not mean. Generous oh my!

So Poland get you ready
Treat her well my special buddy

Other friends also sent eve of departure messages. I am travelling warmed by your wishes.
